![]() the minecraft modding community is much harder to break into than I was expecting! If you're just looking nobody will know obv, but in any case from my own limited research I got the sense that most of them have fairly permissive licenses?Īgain, disclaimer that I'm kind of in the same boat as you, but I hope if nothing else you're feeling the solidarity. Similarly, it definitely might help you to crack open a mod or two or ten from curseforge in intellij and just kind of study them. ![]() I have a very visual/experiential brain and don't do well with any of the modding OR general java tutorials that are currently out there ymmv and it's not exactly fast but it's nice to be able to see how minecraft's code even works! just so we're clear.) and have been using it just to look at some of minecraft's source code, then map that code out visually using draw.io. The other big thing I've been doing lately is that I downloaded mcp reborn (by hexeption on github. There's also a written tutorial by cadiboo somewhere that might help you at least set up your modding environment sorry for just name-dropping stuff with no links but it should be easy to find. The most recent ones were actually slightly too advanced to be much direct help for me, but I absorbed a little about the mod bus and file structure from them! Mcjty has some decent YouTube tutorials that seem to be pretty well-respected. ![]() The discord associated with this subreddit is pretty active, and it's nice to be able to search for a term you don't understand and read previous conversations about it even if you're not sure what or how to ask. I have been having tons of trouble learning how to mod for several months now, so I don't know how much I can help, but here's what I've struggled my way through discovering so far maybe some of it will be useful? So if you have any good learning resources for Java, Forge, and modding in general, I would really appreciate it if you could share them! I've been studying C++ for almost 4 years now in high school, and I also taught myself LUA (but that was when I had more free time). I should also note that I have SOME experience with coding. I know that MCreator is infamous for its low quality mods that the users are producing with the tool, and for the creative limitations that the tool has, but I was wondering if in 2021 they fixed some of its issues regarding the limitations specifically (since you can't really control what users create with the tool), and if I should use MCreator instead of learning how to make mods traditionally, or if MCreator helps me in any way with learning traditional modding (by studying some code and stuff like that). I am quite a busy person as of late, since I am currently studying to get into med school, so I don't have too much time to learn and assimilate all the info I need to start making my own mods (again, maybe some good studying resources could help). I have seen mods, just as good at buildcraft made with MCreator.I've been wanting to get into Minecraft modding for a while now, but I have very limited time to learn Forge and Java, and when I tried getting into it, I struggled a lot (maybe it was because I didn't find the right resources to help me learn), so I gave up. In many ways, this would benefit the Planet Minecraft community. Planet Minecraft should make a separate mods section for MCreator, this would mean, players that can't code could still make a mod and publish it without restrictions. while someone with decent code knowledge could go through and remove references of MCreator, it still would be a MCreator mod. MCreator, in my opinion, anyway MCreator is good for making a 'mock-up' of a mod, nothing more. ![]() I think that while MCreator is 'cheating' in a way, it does not mean it should be blacklisted. When looking for tutorials, I kept finding stuff like 'How to use MCreator' or 'Minecraft Mod Making made EASY', seeing this reminded me of the subject, and it made me think. Being a Minecraft player who is interested In mods, I have many a time came across 'MCreator', while Planet Minecraft does not allow the use of 'MCreator', I am guilty of trying to make a mod with it and putting it on Planet Minecraft, sadly it was removed by a moderator, since then I have not touched the subject, recently, I looked in to making a proper mod.
