The only time where I'd hard-code subtitles in is if your main audience is speaking the language that the subtitles are in. If someone wants to do a fan translation of your video, they're starting off from a written transcript of it, rather than just the video. ![]() It gives translators a better base to go off of. No matter what changes YouTube makes, the built-in subtitles will always be consistent with that, whereas the ones you include in your video may or may not age well.
